Egypt Daily News – Sources in Syria reported on Monday evening that the Israeli army targeted several sites in Damascus and its countryside, and bombed warehouses belonging to the Syrian army in the Latakia countryside.
The Israeli army launched raids on the Yafour area in Damascus, and bombed the headquarters of the Electronic Warfare Department near the Sayyida Zeinab area, south of the capital.
It also carried out raids targeting warehouses belonging to the Syrian army in Al-Sumaria in Damascus, and others in the Corniche, Al-Mushairfa, and Ras Shamra in the Latakia countryside. It indicated that the Israeli raids targeted warehouses belonging to the Syrian army in the Ain Minin area in the Damascus countryside.
The Israeli army also launched raids targeting the scientific research center in Barzeh, in the vicinity of Damascus, and the helicopter airport in the Aqraba area in the capital.
Sources explained that the continuous Israeli bombing since yesterday, Sunday, led to the destruction of all squadrons of warplanes at airports, in addition to radars and weapons depots. Israeli raids also targeted sites in the Daraa countryside and Homs governorate.
For its part, Israel said earlier that it had carried out strikes against chemical weapons sites and missile warehouses in Syria, “as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of Israeli citizens after the fall of Bashar al-Assad.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said in a press conference on Monday that the opposition groups that seized Damascus are people with an “extremist ideology of radical Islam,” adding: “Our only interest is the security of Israel and its citizens. That is why we attacked strategic weapons systems, such as remaining chemical weapons, or “Rockets and long-range missiles so that they do not fall into the hands of extremists.”
