The Presidency
Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi spoke by phone with President of the Lebanese Republic Joseph Aoun.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that President El-Sisi congratulated President Aoun on the occasion of the 82nd anniversary of Lebanon’s independence.
The President emphasized his pride in the growing momentum bilateral relations have gained. For his part, President Aoun expressed his appreciation for President El-Sisi’s gesture on Independence Day, and his constant keenness to strengthen Egyptian-Lebanese relations in various fields. He stressed the depth of the historical bonds between the two peoples and states, and Lebanon’s keenness to maintaining distinguished relations with Egypt.
President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s steadfast stance in support of respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, as well as Egypt’s support for the Lebanese government’s policy of confining weapons to the state’s control.
President Aoun lauded Egypt’s support to Lebanon, reaffirming Lebanon’s commitment to the decision to confine weapons to the control of the state and its legitimate institutions. He also urged the international community to support the Lebanese army, in light of the great national responsibilities it bears, appreciating in this context the Egyptian support for the Lebanese army and security institutions.
