Beginning tomorrow, Saturday, August 1, 2026, the strategic initiative will systematically replace traditional paper visa stickers with a secure QR code system. Ministry of Tourism officials confirmed the digital overhaul is engineered to accelerate immigration processing times, eliminate congested physical queues, and reinforce Egypt’s commitment to becoming a digitally connected global tourism destination.
The state administration plans to initiate the primary pilot phase of the digital network across all arrival terminals at Cairo International Airport. Following the successful completion of the initial testing window, the secure QR code framework will expand via a phased rollout to encompass all regional airports across the country.
The digital visa system will temporarily operate alongside the legacy paper sticker system during the transition period, allowing incoming travelers to utilize either utility before the paper mechanism is permanently phased out.
Sophisticated Multi Channel Portals Enable Pre-Departure QR Code Generation for Global Visitors
The modern border security system enables eligible travelers to generate their secure visa QR codes up to 48 hours before departing their home countries, during active flights, or immediately upon landing. International visitors can access multiple official digital channels to process their data, including a dedicated online state portal, a specialized mobile application, and automated self-service kiosks stationed inside Cairo’s arrival halls.
The total cost for the digital validation service has been finalized at 36 dollars.
The Ministry of Tourism integrated a specialized feature within the network tailored for accredited travel agencies, allowing commercial operators to generate bulk QR codes on behalf of organized tour groups. The secure code can be displayed electronically on mobile devices or presented in printed form to be scanned simultaneously with the traveler’s passport at immigration desks.
The Ministry has officially instructed global airlines, tour operators, and online travel platforms to launch public awareness campaigns to educate consumers ahead of the nationwide rollout.
Tourism Federations Applaud Infrastructure Milestones While Urging Fee Revisions to Match Regional Rivals
The Egyptian Tourism Federation highly commended the digital transition, labeling the modernization a major milestone that the domestic hospitality sector has actively championed for over 15 years. Federation Chair Hossam Al-Shaer noted that the streamlined electronic process will drastically enhance visitor convenience, expressing strong hopes that the cabinet will eventually expand the digital protocol to encompass all global nationalities beyond the current list of eligible countries.
Al-Shaer also noted that Egypt’s primary tourism competitors, including Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, and Morocco—frequently waive visa fees or offer completely visa-free entry to their primary source markets, giving them a distinct competitive advantage.
Chamber of Travel and Tourism Companies Chair Nader Al-Biblawi emphasized that expanding the list of nationalities eligible for electronic visas beyond the existing 180 countries is a vital secondary step to boosting inbound visitor metrics. Al-Biblawi clarified that the government’s long-term tourism strategy extends well beyond administrative visa reform, encompassing integrated financial incentives to rapidly expand commercial air connectivity, increase national hotel room capacity, and diversify target source markets.
