The Central Bank of Egypt and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have officially launched a joint initiative titled “Update Your Data in Egypt” to serve Egyptian expatriates working across international markets. Developed in close coordination with the National Bank of Egypt and Banque Misr, the digital and administrative partnership operates in full compliance with the Egyptian Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Combating Unit and the Federation of Egyptian Banks.
The formalization of the program included the signing of a comprehensive cooperation protocol during the seventh edition of the Egyptian Expatriates Conference in Cairo. High-level financial and diplomatic dignitaries attended the landmark ceremony, including Central Bank Deputy Governor for Banking Stability Tarek El-Kholy, Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Nabil Habshi, National Bank of Egypt CEO Mohamed El-Etreby, and Banque Misr CEO Hisham Okasha.
Sovereign Consular Missions to Authenticate Financial Data Modifications Without Mandatory Domestic Travel
The newly deployed framework enables millions of Egyptians living abroad to systematically update their core banking profiles and personal files without undergoing expensive travel back to Egyptian territory. To initiate the verification process, account holders can visit the nearest Egyptian embassy or consular mission within their respective country of residence to fill out and sign the official data adjustment registry.
The localized diplomatic mission will legally authenticate the citizen’s signature and forward the documentation directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters for rapid validation. Once verified by state protocols, the ministry transmits the secure physical files to the respective national banks to execute the update. This integrated processing loop minimizes bureaucratic delays while maintaining the absolute integrity of global transactional networks.
State Regulators Seek to Boost Foreign Currency Remittances to Maximize National Financial Inclusion
Central Bank of Egypt Governor Hassan Abdallah emphasized that the initiative reflects the regulatory board’s absolute commitment to modernizing financial services for expatriate communities. Abdallah noted that the flexible solutions directly support the state’s broader strategies to maximize financial inclusion and anchor the wealth of overseas citizens to domestic banking frameworks. The programmatic shift builds directly upon the prior success of the “Open Your Account in Egypt” utility while satisfying rigid international banking safety standards.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Badr Abdelatty highlighted that the protocol addresses long-standing demands raised during the sixth Egyptian Expatriates Conference held in August 2025. Abdelatty stated that the coordinated system complies with direct presidential directives to offer high-quality, deniable state services to citizens living abroad. The top diplomat expressed deep gratitude to financial transaction regulators and national banks, concluding that the streamlined mechanisms will heavily incentivize steady foreign currency remittances to structurally reinforce the national economy.
