An Egyptian man injured in attacks on two Saudi airports has praised the support he received from Egypt’s diplomatic mission, saying the swift visit by the ambassador and consul reflected what citizens abroad expect from their government.

The man, whose name was not given in the account, said Egyptian embassy officials had stayed in contact by phone before visiting him in hospital. Egypt’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia and the consul general in Riyadh came to see him and another injured Egyptian, he said.

“The embassy did not fall short,” he said in remarks carried by Cairo News. “They contacted us by phone until they reached us, and came to visit us yesterday in the hospital. The ambassador and the consul general were there. This is what we expect from our government: to ask about its citizens abroad and follow up on their condition.”

His comments followed instructions from Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who directed Egypt’s ambassador and consul general in Riyadh to visit Egyptian nationals injured in the attacks and check on their health. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said one of the two had been discharged from hospital and the other was in stable condition.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation reported that attacks targeted Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 6 and 7. The agency said three people were killed and 36 injured across the two incidents. At King Khalid Airport, a Sudanese resident was killed and eight people were wounded, including two Egyptians. At Abha, two women one Moroccan and one Algerian were killed, while 28 people were injured. The reported injuries ranged from minor to serious.
