Egypt Daily News – French President Emmanuel Macron said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should not forget that Israel was established by a United Nations resolution, according to leaks published by the newspaper “Le Parisien.”

Macron’s statements came during a meeting of the French government today, Tuesday, which addressed the situation in Lebanon that is under a wide Israeli attack.

The statements also come a few days after the Israeli ambassador in France was summoned and the repeated firing by Israel on the United Nations “Blue Helmets” forces in southern Lebanon.

The newspaper says that Macron’s statements were not intended to be published in the media in a statement, and that their leak will lead to tension with Tel Aviv.

The newspaper reported that Macron said in the meeting, “Mr. Netanyahu should not forget that his country was established by a decision of the United Nations, so he should not free himself from the decisions of the United Nations.”

This was a comment by the French president on the situation in southern Lebanon and the repeated firing by Israel at peacekeeping forces, which resulted in the injury of four of them.

Last Friday, Emmanuel Macron deemed it “absolutely unacceptable” for this United Nations force to be “deliberately targeted by Israeli forces,” and warned that “France will not tolerate any further shooting” at peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon.

The French president’s statements are increasing the tension in the already strained relations with Netanyahu recently. On October 6, Netanyahu criticized Macron’s call to stop arms shipments to Israel used in Gaza.
