President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is expected to meet US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of next week’s G7 summit in France, according to senior US administration officials cited by Reuters on Saturday.

The planned meeting will bring the two leaders together for another round of discussions amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to address a range of regional and international challenges, while also exploring opportunities for deeper economic cooperation between Washington and Cairo.

Officials said Trump is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with several world leaders attending the summit, including the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, France and India. The discussions are expected to focus on a number of strategic issues, with economic growth, supply chain resilience and cooperation in artificial intelligence among the key topics on the agenda.

The meeting with El-Sisi will mark the latest direct engagement between the Egyptian and American presidents, who have maintained regular communication throughout Trump’s return to the White House.

The two leaders last met in person on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos in January. During those talks, they reviewed developments across the Middle East, discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional security issues at a time of heightened tensions in several parts of the region.

Egypt remains one of Washington’s closest partners in the Middle East, with cooperation spanning security, counterterrorism, regional diplomacy and economic development. Cairo has also played a central role in efforts to address regional crises, including mediation initiatives related to the Palestinian issue and broader stability in the region.

While US officials did not provide additional details about the upcoming meeting, the talks are expected to offer an opportunity for both leaders to review regional developments and discuss areas of mutual interest as global attention turns to the G7 gathering in France.

The summit is expected to bring together leaders from the world’s major economies alongside invited partner countries, with discussions likely to focus on global economic conditions, emerging technologies, trade, security challenges and ongoing geopolitical tensions.

For Egypt, the meeting could provide another avenue to strengthen dialogue with the United States on economic cooperation and regional diplomacy at a time when Cairo is seeking to expand international partnerships and attract greater foreign investment.
