Ismael Saibari scored after just 71 seconds as Morocco defeated Scotland 1–0 in a World Cup group stage match in Boston. The result puts Morocco in a strong position to qualify for the knockout rounds after another disciplined performance.

Saibari latched onto a long pass from Brahim Díaz and finished sharply past goalkeeper Angus Gunn inside the opening minute. The goal stood as the fastest of the tournament so far and gave Morocco an early advantage.

Morocco controlled possession for large parts of the first half and repeatedly threatened through quick attacking transitions. Scotland struggled to cope with Morocco’s movement and failed to create meaningful chances before halftime.

Bilal El Khannouss missed a clear opportunity to extend the lead after a well-worked attacking move. Scotland’s best first-half moment came from a cross by Andy Robertson that was not converted.

The second half continued with Morocco looking more dangerous in attack and creating several half-chances. A deflected effort also struck the crossbar and came close to doubling the lead.

Goalkeeper Angus Gunn produced an important save to deny a close-range header from El Khannouss after a set piece. Scotland increased their intensity but still lacked precision in the final third throughout the half.

Late efforts from Ryan Christie and Scott McTominay failed to break through Morocco’s defensive structure. Morocco managed the closing stages calmly to secure all three points.

Morocco now have four points from two matches and are close to securing qualification for the knockout stage. Scotland face a difficult task going into their final group match against Brazil.
