Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple areas in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, including Al-Nabatieh al-Fawqa and surrounding villages, according to Lebanese state media. The attacks come amid ongoing regional instability despite a reported US-Iran agreement aimed at reducing broader Middle East tensions.
The Lebanese National News Agency said Israeli warplanes struck areas near Nabatieh, one of the largest cities in southern Lebanon. Additional strikes were reported in eastern Kfar Tebnit and the coastal area of Ansariyeh in the Zahrani region.
At least five people were killed in the latest wave of strikes in southern Lebanon, according to local reports. The escalation took place even as diplomatic efforts in the region suggested a broader attempt to de-escalate the conflict landscape.
The Israeli military said it carried out an airstrike after identifying a suspicious vehicle operating near where its forces were deployed. It did not provide exact coordinates of the operation or further operational details.
The military also reported intercepting rockets fired toward its troops in southern Lebanon. It added that its air force later struck and destroyed what it described as a rocket launch platform used in the attacks.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the rocket fire, and Hezbollah has not announced any operations against Israeli forces since Tuesday. However, cross-border tensions remain active along the southern Lebanon front.
The situation unfolds against a backdrop of fragile expectations following diplomatic announcements involving the United States and Iran. Despite political agreements at higher levels, ground-level military activity continues in multiple hotspots.
Southern Lebanon remains a persistent flashpoint, with Israeli forces maintaining operational activity near the border region. The latest escalation underscores the gap between diplomatic messaging and realities on the ground.
