The Presidency
This morning, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, laid wreaths at the Armed Forces Martyrs’ Memorial and at the tombs of the late Presidents Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat and Gamal Abdel Nasser, marking the 53rd anniversary of the October 1973 War victory.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, stated that upon the President’s arrival at the Armed Forces Martyrs’ Memorial, he was received by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production, Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher and
Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa.
The guard of honor rendered a salute, and the national anthem was played. Subsequently, the President laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier while the “Martyr’s Salute” was played. President El-Sisi then greeted a number of October War commanders before proceeding to the tomb of the late President Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat to lay a wreath and recite Al-Fatiha, after which he greeted the family of the late president and Armed Forces commanders. The visit to the Memorial was attended by the commanders of the main military branches and various senior Armed Forces commanders. This is in addition to Speaker of the House of Representatives Counselor Hisham Badawy, Speaker of the Senate Counselor Essam El-Din Farid, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, His Eminence the Grand Imam, Sheikh Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St Mark, Minister of Interior
Major General Mahmoud Tawfik, Minister of State for Military Production Dr. Salah Soliman Gembalat and Governor of Cairo Dr. Ibrahim Saber.
The President then headed to the mausoleum of the late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, where he was received by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defense and Military Production, and the late leader’s family. The President laid a wreath and recited Al-Fatiha in memory of the late leader.
